“CALL ME MICKY” LANDS DOUBLE FESTIVAL HONOR FOR MICKY ANGELO PETRILLO

Documentary subject and advocate Micky Angelo Petrillo is having a rare kind of week: two film festival invitations, on two different stages, for his documentary “Call Me Micky”

Petrillo, a New Jersey native whose late-in-life gender transition is the subject of the film, was first invited to the NY Transgender Film Festival on Fire Island, where he appeared alongside cast members Stacey Simon O’Reilly, Ike Avelli, Billy Hess, and Mark De Alwis. Publicist Eileen Shapiro of Get Out Magazine and World Star PR accompanied the group.  “Call Me Micky” won Best Documentary at the New York Transgender Film Festival…..

The film, directed by Andrew Rasmussen, then earned a second invitation: the Newark International Film Festival, marking its 11th year at Newark’s CityPlex 12 Theater. Petrillo walked the festival’s blue carpet on Saturday, September 12, alongside Rasmussen. The blue-carpet segment began at 11:30 a.m., with a step-and-repeat for photos and comedians conducting on-carpet interviews for a camera crew documenting the event.

“Call Me Micky” follows Petrillo’s transition and his decision, in his late fifties, to tell that story on film with humor and candor. The back-to-back festival invitations mark a milestone for the project as it continues its run on the festival circuit.
