USMNT Coaches Listen to Ella Langley Before Every World Cup Match

The United States’ World Cup Soccer Team just cracked the top 32 and gets set to take on Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team on July 1.

As they get ready for the big match, the team’s head coach is calling on country music stars to pitch in and support Team U.S.A.

U.S.A. World Cup Team Coaches Listen to Ella Langley, Luke Combs + Lainey Wilson Before Each Match

In a recent interview the head coach for the U.S. Men’s Soccer Team, Mauricio Pochettino says he and the other coaches are huge fans of country music.

Pochettino said, “I like country music. The night before games, the coaching staff gets together and we play country music. Luke Combs, Lainey Wilson, Ella Langley…”

Pochettino isn’t speaking English in the clip, so to hear him say Langley, Combs and Wilson’s name in his Argentinian accent shows just how far the genre of music has indeed travelled.

But it was a smash. And that turned out to be just the beginning of what Langley had to offer. She’s continued to dominate with hits like “Weren’t For the Wind” and the crossover mega-hit “Choosin’ Texas,” becoming one of the most high profile acts in country music and a bonafide star even beyond the genre.

Keep reading for Taste of Country’s countdown of 15 Ella Langley songs that put her on the map, and then rewrote the rules of what traditional country sounds like — and how successful it can be even beyond the genre.
