Singer Boy George used an appearance on ITV’s Lorraine to dispel misinformation about trans youth and to call author JK Rowling a “muggle.”
The “Karma Chameleon” singer, 64, said it is “ridiculous” to suggest parents children push children to identify as trans, arguing its the “children that inform the parents.”
“When I was a kid, when I was seven, it was obvious to everyone that I was gay, but, you know, I didn’t know what it was,” he said. “Parents often know but they don’t say anything, they think if they don’t talk about it, it will go away.
“Usually with trans kids, it’s the kid that informs the adult through different behaviour. You know, if a little girl is not ‘acting’ like a little girl should. Usually it’s the children that inform the adults.”
Speaking during a guest spot on ITV daytime show, Lorraine, Boy George said that he knew from friends with trans children that growing up trans in the UK right now is a “nightmare” and a “struggle.”

He said that his friends often asked him whether they should “wait until their kid is 18 or 21” and what the “right thing” is to do.
“All of that stuff, is, you know, it’s real-life stuff. It’s no two celebrities bickering on the internet,” he went on.
In April, Boy Georgoe criticised Harry Potter author JK Rowling’s views on trans rights on X, leading to a public spat with the author.
Asked about the argument, Boy George said to host Lorraine Kelly that he found it “hilarious” that he was having a row with “someone I’ve never met, probably never will meet.”
“In the movies, she creates this beautiful, magical world, but in real life she’s a muggle,” he went on. “It’s very disappointing.
“I think for most people it doesn’t matter. It matters only whether you’re a nice person or a horrible person. Nobody chooses to be trans or gay. No one chooses to have blue eyes, it just happens.”
George said it was “sad” to see Rowling, who he called “creative,” hold those views, adding: “I bet she’s watching now. Morning! Get over it!”
