Valentine’s Day Slasher Movie ‘Lovers Lane’ Featuring Anna Faris Comes to Blu-ray from Arrow Video

There’s something inherently unsettling about teeth, and the addition of someone prodding at them with sharp instruments is especially invasive. On the other side of that coin, the negative association with dentistry can impact the professionals. Cult filmmaker Brian Yuzna (Return of the Living Dead III, Society) tapped into these fundamental fears with his 1996 direct-to-video film, The Dentist, and its 1998 sequel, The Dentist 2. In fact, Yuzna knew he could sell the movie based on the title alone, so he solicited writers to pitch him on the concept....

Willem Dafoe Joins the Cast of ‘Nosferatu’ Movie from Robert Eggers

Robert Eggers (The Witch, The Lighthouse, The Northman) is directing a remake of the horror classic Nosferatu, and Deadline reports that Willem Dafoe is in talks to join the cast. Dafoe was of course recently directed by Eggers in The Lighthouse, and it’s worth noting that Dafoe actually played Max Schreck/Count Orlok in the 2000 film Shadow of the Vampire. Dafoe’s role in the Eggers remake, however, is unknown at this time. Bill Skarsgard and Lily-Rose Depp recently came on board the ship as well, with Robert Eggers planning to make Nosferatu as his next movie...

‘M3GAN’ and Six More of the Most Memorable Killer Androids in Horror

Out of all the popular Universal monsters, werewolves may have appeared the most often in ‘90s children’s literature. There was something about these hirsute creatures of the night that appealed to young readers back then. Through adult eyes, werewolves are a duality of man and beast, day and night, and good and evil. For kids, though, they’re simply scary monsters who might eat them. Couple that plain fear with morbid fascination, and werewolves are a perfect adversary for young people, as seen in this beastly edition of Buried in a...

After 20 Years, Is ‘Devil May Cry 2’ Still a Toss up for Fans?

After Capcom’s Devil May Cry hit the scene with its stylish action and cool-as-hell protagonist, fans were hungry for more from Dante and company. To say that the sequel didn’t exactly live up to expectations was an understatement. Gone were Trish and Dante’s iconic one-liners and attitude, and in their place we had Lucia and a Dante that was more concerned with coin flips than cracking smart. In the years since the release of Devil May Cry 2, Capcom, much like the fans, has acted as if the first sequel...

‘In My Mother’s Skin’ Sundance Review – An Ambitiously Grim Horror Fairy Tale

Squelching sounds radiate over a dark screen as we fade in on a humanoid creature chowing down on a victim’s throat. After pulling away and exposing an inhumanly long tongue, the creature begins to gag, vomiting up a small black bird. So begins Kenneth Dagatan‘s In My Mother’s Skin, a horror fairy tale that will undoubtedly draw comparisons to Guillermo del Toro’s 2006 masterpiece Pan’s Labyrinth, but has a much more sinister side in store for audiences who are willing to sit through its more deliberately paced plot machinations. Set in...

‘Run Rabbit Run’ Sundance Review – Aussie Horror Drama Is ‘The Babadook’-Lite

The horror genre has always been an excellent vehicle for metaphors for grief and trauma. After all, what better genre is there to take our emotional monsters and make them literal? We’ve seen a rise in these types of films over the past decade, with particular standouts being films like The Babadook (review), Hereditary (review) and Relic (review). Daina Reid‘s Run Rabbit Run is the latest addition to this sub-genre but, despite a committed lead performance from Sarah Snook (HBO’s Succession), it succumbs to predictable genre tropes and offers a severe lack of narrative...
