One of the key findings from a new study by the Pew Research Center shows that 30% of Americans now read ebooks, up from 25% in 2019. The number of those who read a print book stayed the same in that time period, while audiobook reading increased from 20% to 23%. Wattpad, a platform used to host both fan fiction and original fiction, has announced a new partnership with ViacomCBS. Viacom will adapt stories from Wattpad as well as the webcomic platform WEBTOON into series to stream on Paramount+. Wattpad was purchased this year by Naver, the parent company of WEBTOON, for $600 million dollars. The prison cell in Norfolk Prison in Massachusetts where Malcolm X is believed to have been incarcerated is being transformed into the first of 1,000 planned Freedom Libraries. The initiative is the creation of Reginald Dwayne Betts, an author and lawyer who was incarcerated at 16 for 9 years. He read daily and credits access to books in prison for helping to turn his life around.
