Halsey Calls Starring in ‘Maxxxine’ an ‘Absolute Dream’
“I worked on this film during a rollercoaster time in my life and I will always cherish the memories of this set,” said the singer and actress
Halsey is taking a moment away from her new single “Lucky” to celebrate the release of Maxxxine. On Friday, as the film premiered in theaters, Halsey shared a post commemorating her role as Tabby Martin in the slasher film.
“It was an absolute dream to be a part of this incredible cinematic universe, and to work with / witness such an unbelievable cast and crew at the hands of the great Ti West,” Halsey wrote on social media. “And absolute icon Mia Goth.”
“I worked on this film during a rollercoaster time in my life and I will always cherish the memories of this set,” she added. The photos accompanying the caption see Halsey eating in her dressing room and several stills of her character alongside Goth.
A David Fear review of the film for Rolling Stone described the movie as a “tribute to Eighties slasher flicks” and commended Goth’s acting. “We meet Minx as a nobody and leave her as a star, washed of her sins via the salvation of horror movies,” reads the review. “That’s certainly love letter material, but the fact that it’s written in deep-red ink is not accidental.”
The release of the film comes just a few days after Halsey revealed that she’ll sample Britney Spears’ “Lucky” on her own song of the same name ahead of her upcoming fifth album. “When I was five, it always felt like Britney was singing directly to me. 24 years later, these words hit different,” she wrote on Instagram. “Love you forever.”
Maxxxine follows Halsey’s appearance as Mandy Starr in 2023’s Americana and voice as Porsha Crystal in Sing 2.
