Here’s How Meghan Markle Paid Homage to Queen Elizabeth with Her Outfit
Meghan Markle just honored Queen Elizabeth II with her outfit.
While attending the procession of the late monarch’s coffin to Westminster Hall on Wednesday, the Duchess of Sussex appeared in an all-black look, following royal protocol for the family’s current period of mourning. She wore a black coat over a black dress, as well as sheer black tights, black heels, and a black hat with ribbon details.
Most notably, the duchess accessorized with a pair of pearl-and-diamond earrings, which were gifted to her by the late monarch. Queen Elizabeth presented the piece of jewelry to Meghan in honor of their first solo outing together back in 2018, according to People.
Meghan arrived at the Palace of Westminster via car, which she shared with Sophie, Countess of Wessex. Meanwhile, her husband, Prince Harry, walked behind his grandmother’s coffin alongside his father, King Charles III; his brother, Prince William; and various other members of the royal family.
The two later reunited during the reception, where Meghan was seen standing at Harry’s side.
Since Buckingham Palace announced the queen’s death last Thursday, her coffin has traveled from Balmoral Castle in Scotland, to the Palace of Holyroodhouse and St. Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh, and now to Westminster Hall in London. The coffin will lie in state for several days before it makes its way to its final resting place at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, where she will be buried next to Prince Philip.
