The Weeknd released his new album Dawn FM last night, and the singer sparked rumors that his sightings with Angelina Jolie over the past couple months may be romantic after all. In his song “Here We Go…Again,” The Weeknd sang about dating a “movie star” now, likely a nod to Jolie’s illustrious Hollywood career. Genius users also noted he seemed to comment about ex-girlfriend Bella Hadid’s new art director boyfriend, Marc Kalman, in the same set of verses.
He started by seemingly referencing Hadid’s new romance before detailing his own:

What exactly is the backstory between Jolie and The Weeknd? They were first seen together at the end of June 2021 having dinner out. Dating speculation ran particularly high at the end of September, when Jolie and The Weeknd were photographed leaving Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica together.
The Daily Mail ran photos of Jolie and The Weeknd alongside each other and reported that Jolie and The Weeknd took his SUV to his Bel Air home after dinner. They reportedly spent two and a half hours dining in a private section of Giorgio Baldi before leaving.
Multiple sources spoke to E! about the nature of their relationship at the time, with one insisting point blank that they weren’t dating.
“They are not dating,” that source said. “They have mutual interests and are enjoying putting their ideas together to see what they can come up with. They have been recently talking about partnering on a few humanitarian projects together. He loves talking about movies and the art form.”
Jolie and The Weeknd “have been enjoying each other’s company [but] they aren’t dating,” the source stressed. “He has been enjoying getting to know her and feels they have a formed a close bond.”
A second source told E!, “The Weeknd and Angelina met through mutual friends in the film and entertainment industry. They have a lot in common. They totally hit it off after their first meeting earlier this summer and have kept in touch ever since.”
But a source told Us Weekly in late September that the possibility of things becoming romantic was very much there. “Both Angie and Abel [Tesfaye, The Weeknd’s real name] are telling people that they are just friends, but those who know them think something romantic is going on,” that source said. “Friends believe things could turn romantic.”
Jolie “is playing down talk of anything serious,” the source added, noting “she’s definitely warming toward Abel. He’s been pouring on the charm and going out of his way to impress her.”
If “Here We Go…Again” really is about her, then he may have succeeded.
