Kristen Stewart Literally Swooned Over Robert Pattinson While Reminiscing About Their First ‘Twilight’ Makeout
Kristen Stewart gave The New Yorker a very honest reflection of her time filming Twilight in the magazine’s new profile on her, which serves as a career retrospective. In the piece, Stewart recounted her first impression of her Twilight co-star and later off-screen boyfriend Robert Pattinson when he came to audition for the role of Edward with her. She literally “mimicked a swoon” recreating her impression of him, The New Yorker wrote. According to the piece, Stewart and Pattinson read lines together for the role and made out as part of their audition.
“It was so clear who worked,” Stewart told the outlet with a grin. “I was literally just, like…” At that point, Stewart mimicked that swoon, then elaborated on what made Pattinson so right for taking on the role alongside her. “[He had an] intellectual approach that was combined with ‘I don’t give a fuck about this, but I’m going to make this sing.’ And I was, like, ‘Ugh, same,’” Stewart recalled, with a smile. “And, whatever, we were young and stupid and, not to say that we made it so much better, but that’s what it needed, and that’s what anybody playing those parts needed to feel.”
Stewart said the “public stoicism” surrounding her role in the film helped her as she continued her career in Hollywood. “Like, how fun for people to think they know you,” she said. “Did you think I was going to do Twilight forever? Is that how you saw me? If that’s how you saw me, then you really set me up for success, because I can do way more than that.”
Stewart, by the way, has spoken about Pattinson and their time in Twilight together before in interviews. In November 2019, she admitted she would’ve even married him while they were dating. “Every relationship I’ve ever been in, I thought that was it. I’ve never like casually—maybe one or two, okay, I’m not giving everyone that due. I’ve never really been the most casual person,” she said.
“We were together for years, that was my first [love],” she said of Pattinson, calling him “the best” even now.
