Here’s When Every Episode of Gossip Girl Will Drop on HBO Max
Gossip Girl‘s gone prestige. Less than a decade after the original CW series went off the air in 2012, showrunner Joshua Safran has revived the beloved teen drama for the social media era, installed a new cast, and drenched it all in decadence.
It’s fitting that the new Gossip Girl should find its way to HBO Max, the prestige network’s steadily growing streaming service, given the production value the show demanded. As Safran explained to Vulture, the old Gossip Girl was the new girl in town. “The first time, there were no expectations,” he said. “Nobody knew what the show was. We had to beg every location to let us shoot there.” This time, Gossip Girl‘s the It Girl.
You won’t find carbon copies of Serena van der Woodsen, Dan Humphrey, or Blair Waldorf in the new GG, but rather a new breed of clout-chasers wearing Christopher John Rogers and toting around shopping bags from Net-A-Porter. But, just like their older counterparts, they’re being watched: A new iteration of the old Gossip Girl blog has joined Instagram, and it seems to know everything about Julien Calloway, her half-sister Zoya Lott, and the brewing drama at Constance Billard and St. Jude’s.
The Gossip Girl revival will premiere its first episode on July 8 on HBO Max, with the following five episodes landing each Friday through August 12. The series will then take a break before dropping the final installments in the fall. Here’s how the lineup looks so far:
- Episode 1: “Just Another Girl on the MTA” streaming July 8
- Episode 2: “She’s Having a Maybe” streaming July 15
- Episode 3: “Lies Wide Shut” streaming July 22
- Episode 4: “Fire Walks With Z” streaming July 29
- Episode 5: “Hope Sinks” streaming August 5
- Episode 6: “Parentsite” streaming August 12
- Episode 7 streaming in fall 2021. Exact date TBD.
- Episode 8 streaming in fall 2021. Exact date TBD.
- Episode 9 streaming in fall 2021. Exact date TBD.
- Episode 10 streaming in fall 2021. Exact date TBD.
To watch, all you need is a subscription to HBO Max, which you can purchase for $14.99 a month if you want ad-free viewing, or $9.99 a month if commercials don’t bother you. Hulu subscribers can also get a 7-day free trial of HBO Max and bundle the two subscriptions for a total of $14.99 per month. And if you want to make sure Gossip Girl lives up to your expectations before you invest in another streaming service, you can watch part of the show live: The CW will air the premiere episode on July 9 at 8 p.m. ET.
