“We’ve Been Talking About a Sequel Nonstop”: Alexandre Aja Talks ‘Crawl 2’! [Exclusive]
Released in 2019, Alexandre Aja‘s Crawl put Kaya Scodelario up against a category 5 hurricane and a pack of hungry alligators, and the thrilling mix of action and suspense-horror proved to be a hit with audiences at the box office. On a $13 million production budget, Crawl scared up over $91 million worldwide, suggesting that a sequel probably won’t be far behind.
In fact, Aja reveals in a new chat with Bloody Disgusting’s The Boo Crew Podcast this week that sequel talks are well underway, with the team trying to crack the story at the moment. Will a potential Crawl 2 pick up after the events of the first film, which ended with Scodelario’s Haley and her father being saved, or would it tell a whole new story entirely?
“We’ve been talking about a sequel nonstop, and putting together a really, really fun take,” Aja explains to the Boo Crew. “I think the story of Haley is a really strong one, but I believe that Crawl is about nature taking back its due, and kind of like… more hurricane driven, man versus animal. So maybe it will be another story altogether.”
Aja continues, dishing some more early details: “We’re looking for that human story right now, that will be as strong as the one in the first one. To make the second one legit.”
