Amber Glenn is “limiting” her time on social media after receiving “a scary amount of hate/threats” for discussing representing the LGBTQ+ community at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Glenn, who won a gold for ‘Team LGBTQ+’ in the team figure skating event on Sunday (8 February), identifies as pansexual and is one of a record-breaking 41 out-LGBTQ+ athletes taking part in the Milano Cortina games.
On Saturday (7 February), the athlete took to Instagram to call out the “scary amount of hate/threats” she has received.
It followed Glenn discussing the LGBTQ+ community’s struggles during a press conference on Wednesday (4 February). In her response, Glenn recognised: “It’s been a hard time for the community overall in this administration.”
She also said it wasn’t the first time the queer community has had to “fight for our human rights”, aligning the queer community with other marginalised groups in the US right now. “I think that we are able to support each other in a way that we didn’t have to before, and because of that, it’s made us a lot stronger,” Glenn also said.

That appears to have sparked a backlash, including threats against the athlete. “When I chose to utilise one of the amazing things about the United States of America (freedom of speech) to convey how I feel as an athlete competing for Team USA in a troubling time for many Americans, I am now receiving a scary amount of hate/threats for simply using my voice when asked about how I feel,” Glenn wrote on Instagram on Saturday, according to Us Weekly.
She added: “I did anticipate this, but I am disappointed by it. I will be limiting my time on social media for my own well-being for now. But, I will never stop using my voice for what I believe in.”
Speaking on Sunday, after winning gold, Glenn echoed much of her statement. She confirmed: “I’m not online right now because of [the backlash].” However, Glenn pushed past it. “I’m gonna keep speaking my truth.
“I’m gonna keep representing what I believe in and what I think all Americans believe in, which is freedom and being able to love and do what you want. So, I just I hope we can keep going forward and be positive,” she said, as reported by USA Today.
Glenn might also have issues when it comes to the music she used for her free skate. She performed to “The Return” by Seb McKinnon aka CLANN. Posting on X on Sunday, McKinnon claimed they hadn’t given permission.
