When is England playing next and how to watch

England next match Euros

The Women’s Euros 2025 are underway! And as the reigning champions, England have a lot riding on success with their first match soon. If you’re wondering “when is England playing next,” read on.

The Lionesses won the tournament in 2022 so the hopes will be that they can keep that winning streak alive and, as they say, bring it home.

And with LGBTQ+ stars in the 2025 Euros squad like Lucy Bronze, Jess Carter and Beth Mead we are feeling positive about England’s chances this year, despite what the bookies say.

England manager Sarina Wiegman previously told PinkNews that she was “excited to see what we are capable of this summer.”

The Lionesses will be taking to the pitch for their first match against France this weekend. The two teams are joined in Group D by Wales and the Netherlands.

Here’s everything we know about the England vs. France game.

When is the match taking place?

The match is taking place on Saturday 5 July. Kick off is set for 8PM UK time.

Where is the match taking place?

The game is being played at Zurich’s Stadion Letzigrund.

How can I watch the match?

Coverage will get going on ITV 1 and ITV X from 7pm.

Who is starting out for England?

The England squad has a good roster for Wiegman to choose from, including a decent list of LGBTQ+ stars.

Wiegman has previously said of the squad: “This group is a very well-balanced mix of players with multiple tournaments on their CVs and also those that will make their tournament debuts. I am excited to see what we are capable of this summer.”

Lauren James has recently come back to play after three months away, helping beat Jamaica 7-0 in Leicester on Sunday. The England team from that game put on an impressive display so we could see an unchanged team face off against France.

Who about France?

The French team also features a number of LGBTQ+ players. Pauline Peyraud-Magnin, Constance Picaud, Sandie Toletti, and Maëlle Lakrar could all make the starting line up.

Who is the referee?

Tess Olofsson is set to refereee England’s first game of the tournament. Almira Spahić and Monica Lokkeberg will support.
