Anna Camp was ‘surprised’ by the reaction to her age-gap girlfriend

Pitch Perfect’s Anna Camp has said she’s been surprised by the “hubbub” over her relationship with younger girlfriend Jade Whipkey. 

The 42-year-old recently spoke with Cosmopolitan about her relationship with Jade Whipkey, who works as a stylist and set designer.

The You star, who last month made her red carpet debut with her girlfriend and defended their 18-year age-gap, said she’s been surprised by the attention and noise her relationship has attracted. 

Speaking about her girlfriend, Anna Camp said: “We’re definitely surprised by all of the attention, to be totally honest. We’ve been a bit surprised by all of the hubbub, but there’s been a lot of support so we’re very grateful and thankful for everybody who is supportive of us. It’s lovely…” 

Despite the noise surrounding their partnership, she said of their relationship: “We’re so happy together. It’s just been such a wonderful, transformative time in my life. I’m so thankful to have her by my side.”

She also shared that fellow queer Pitch Perfect alum Rebel Wilson, who also stars in action/comedy Bride Hard, has been the “most supportive”. 

“Rebel and I go back so many years — something like 14 years, we’ve known each other — and she’s been the most supportive out of everyone of me coming out,” she shared. 

Camp initially revealed that she was “dating a woman” via TikTok, which led to several comments targeting the pair’s 18-year age gap. 

The comments led Camp to clap back. She wrote in response to the hate comments: “Thought I’d jump on here … and just say I’ve dated men exactly my age and Jade is FAR more mature than any of them. 

“We have more in common than anyone else I’ve ever dated and can literally talk about anything and everything.

“Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I’m wishing everyone well 🙂 Especially this Pride month.”
