Euphoria star Eric Dane has made his first appearance on a red carpet since revealing he has amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) diagnosis.
The actor, 52, who plays Cal Jacobs in the HBO series, shared the news of his diagnosis, a form of the degenerative condition motor neurone disease, in April. Speaking to Variety on the red carpet for Countdown on Wednesday (18 June), he said he felt “good” and enjoyed celebrating his and his co-stars work.
Dane, who has also been seen in X-Men: The Last Stand and as Dr Mark Sloan in Grey’s Anatomy, revealed that production for the long-awaited third season of the Euphoria was underway although he hasn’t filmed any scenes yet.
“We’re moving right along. I don’t know exactly what it is I’m doing per se but I trust [show creator] Sam Levinson with every fibre of my being.”

Dane confirmed he wanted to keep working despite his condition. “It always feels great to be on a set, it’s great to be employed. I love what I give. I’m going to keep doing it,” he said.
His red carpet appearance follows an emotional interview on Good Morning America on Monday (16 June), when he revealed that he has only one functioning arm. “My left side is functioning, my right side has completely stopped working. I feel maybe a couple more months and I won’t have my left hand either. It’s sobering,” he admitted.
Dane teared up when talking about the support he’s had from wife Rebecca Gayheart, saying: “She is probably my biggest champion and my most stalwart supporter, and I lean on her.” The couple have two daughters, Georgia and Billie Beatrice.
Countdown stars Jensen Ackles as a Los Angeles detective who is recruited to a task force to investigate the murder of a Department of Homeland Security officer. It is due to stream on Prime Video from Wednesday (25 June).
