Descend Through Hell in Style With Upcoming Metroidvania ‘Fevericide’ [Trailer]


We are now officially Halfway to Halloween and Spirit Halloween celebrated in grand fashion by sending along one hell of a killer package to the Bloody Disgusting offices this morning. The package contained a fully playable NES-style “Spirit Entertainment System,” complete with legit retro NES game Haunted: Halloween ’86 – Spirit Halloween Edition.

Just a few hours after we cracked open that surprise package, we’re excited to let you know that you can purchase that very retro-style NES game on Spirit Halloween’s website now!

The game is a special Spirit Halloween Edition of a game previously released by the company Retrotainment, and it’s being billed as a “limited edition vintage collectible cartridge.” But it’s not just for decoration, as the game is fully playable in the original NES system or a modern NES cartridge-compatible replica system like the RetroN gaming console from Hyperkin.

The physical release from Spirit includes a custom game box, game cartridge, and user manual. Spirit also notes that the game is coming soon to Digital platforms. Stay tuned.

Here’s the official synopsis for Haunted: Halloween ’86 – Spirit Halloween Edition:

“October 31st 2025: On a quiet evening in Possum Hollow, two kids are looking for the perfect Donny and Tami costumes. On a quest to dress up as their heroes, Steven and Kym venture into a Spirit Halloween, but just as they put on the costumes, they’re surprised by Jack the Reaper who plummets them through a vortex back to 1986 to relive the infamous nightmare that Donny and Tami endured. Jack the Reaper has taken over Possum Hollow with a few old friends and they are having so much fun, it’s scary.

“To find their way home our heroes must battle all sorts of evil and there is nowhere to hide. Teamwork is the key to returning to 2025 in time to trick-or-treat. Steven and Kym must work together to overcome spooky obstacles, climb through chaos, dodge pumpkins and destroy enemies before they come face to face with Spirit Halloween’s finest. With exciting challenges, insane surprises, and a sweet soundtrack.”
