List of all Supreme Court protests this weekend

Huge protests against the recent trans Supreme Court ruling will be held across the UK this weekend.

On Wednesday (16 April), the Supreme Court ruled in a landmark case brought by gender-critical group For Women Scotland against the Scottish government that the the legal definition of a woman excludes trans women and the protected characteristic of ‘sex’ under the 2010 Equality Act refers to biology.

The ruling will have wide-ranging implications for the trans and non-binary community, particularly in regard to how public bodies and organisations operate in relation to issues such as inclusion and single-sex spaces.

British Transport Police have already announced that, from now on, trans women that the BTP hold in custody will be strip searched by male, rather than female, officers.

The unanimous decision has sparked outrage from trans activists and allies, with Stonewall CEO Simon Black stating that the ruling “will be incredibly worrying for the trans community.”

In response, almost 30 separate protests have been announced across the country over the Easter weekend (18 to 21 April), taking place in multiple towns and cities across the UK, from Orkney to Plymouth.

Where are protests being held?

In London, a protest posted by What The Trans?! will be held on Saturday (19 April) at 1pm in Parliament Square.

The meeting point will be at the Boadicea and Her Daughters statue, with a post advertising the protest noting: “Let’s show up and show our love for trans lives.”

In Cardiff, a march for trans liberation will be held on Monday (21 April) at 1pm at the Aneurin Bevan statue, Queen Street, Cardiff.
