‘The Suffering’ and Its Sequel Leaving GOG.com on September 1st


All good things, it seems, must come to an end. And in the case of The Suffering and its sequel, The Suffering: Ties That Bind, their availability on PC is nearing the end. Seven years after being added to GOG.com, the Surreal Software-developed games will be delisted from the service on September 1st.

Per their post to X, GOG.com has received a request from Warner Bros. to remove the action horror titles from the service. Fans can still purchase both titles until September 1st, which are yours to keep after they’re delisted.

Does this mean that The Suffering and Ties That Bind are due for a remaster? Perhaps, but most likely that isn’t the case. Warner Bros. has been rumoured to be selling off its games division, so this might be the result. GOG.com is currently the only way to play these two titles, as neither one is on Steam or the Epic Games Store.

If you haven’t played The Suffering, it was originally released for the PC, PlayStation 2 and Xbox back in 2004. The story centred on Torque, a prisoner on death row for murdering his ex-wife and two children, a crime that he possesses no memory of committing. Shortly after arriving at Abbot State Penitentiary on Carnate Island, the prison is attacked by supernatural threats from the island’s past. After being freed, Torque attempts to fight his way to freedom while confronting his own personal demons, all while attempting to remember what really happened to his family.

The 2005 sequel, The Suffering: Ties That Bind, picks up after the end of the first game, where Torque flees Carnate island and heads back to his home town of Baltimore. Unfortunately, Torque must once again battle the creatures from Carnate, which are now terrorizing Baltimore.
