‘In Sound Mind’ Devs Announce Remake of ‘Nightmare House 2’ Mod With ‘Nightmare House: Reimagined’ [Trailer]

Sure, we’ve had games about zombies overrunning a city time and time again, but what about a Medieval village? Developer Ocean Drive Studio aims to add a bit of spice to the open world zombie survival genre with God Save Birmingham, which will launch in Early Access on PC via Steam. No word on the initial release date.

Set in 14th-century Birmingham, England, God Save Birmingham sees you as the lone survivor of an undead plague that has besieged the medieval market town. As a result, you must forage for supplies, craft tools and weapons, as well as hunt for food, water, and shelter, with only your wits to protect you. All the while, the undead horde creeps closer.

The game will make use of physics-based mechanics, where you’ll need to think to stay alive. Stack furniture to barricade doors, leap low fences to trip up your undead foes, and if you’re looking to go on the offensive, lop off limbs to reduce the undead to angry, wriggling torsos.

You won’t have to rely entirely on the countryside to find your food and supplies, as you can use the town itself. That includes heading to the Burgage Plots to forage for resources, or raiding the boarded-up smithies for tools. Or, if you’re in the mood for sightseeing, you can explore historic architecture at the Church of St. Martin in the Bull Ring.

Ocean Drive’s goal for the Early Access release is to have “about one-quarter of the entire town” available to players, with the rest coming between the initial Early Access period and the full 1.0 version. The team plans on spending “another year or so” after the Early Access release creating some story-driven elements “that allow players to explore the stories of Birmingham’s people as they fight to survive in a world gone mad.”
