Ariana Grande, Brandy, Monica, Have Dropped ‘The Boy Is Mine’ Remix

Brandy and Monica released the original chart-topping hit in 1998

Ariana Grande has finally released “The Boy Is Mine” remix — collaborating with powerhouses Brandy and Monica 26 years after they debuted the original, massive hit of the same name in 1998.

Grande announced the remix earlier this week on social media, writing, “I ……… cannot believe this is real (i don’t know if i will even long after it’s out).” The “7 Rings” singer also thanked Brandy and Monica, “not only for joining me for this moment, but for your generosity, your kindness, and for the countless ways in which you have inspired me.”

“It is near impossible to say how much this means to me,” she added. “This is in celebration of you both and the impact that you have had on every vocalist, vocal producer, musician, artist that is creating today.”

On Friday, following the remix’s release, Brandy posted a link to the song on X and wrote: “Love you Ariana Thank you for embracing us with so much warmth and kindness. Overjoyed to celebrate this moment with you and @MonicaDenise.”

The 1998 track spent 13 week at Number One on the Billboard Hot 100 following its release. The two R&B greats also made cameos in Grande’s music video of the reimagined track, which also features Penn Badgley alongside a slick Catwoman-like Grande.

Grande released her seventh album, Eternal Sunshine, in March. In Rolling Stone‘s review, writer Brittany Spanos called “The Boy Is Mine” a “late Nineties, early Aughts R&B-pop moment.” When describing her latest LP, Spanos wrote that the project sees Grande navigate “a new beginning with some of the most honest and inventive songs of her career so far.”
