Ariana Grande Taps Brandy, Monica for ‘The Boy Is Mine’ Remix

“It is near impossible to say how much this means to me,” Grande said of the upcoming track, out June 21

Ariana Grande will bring “The Boy Is Mine” full circle with a new remix featuring Brandy and Monica, who famously scored a hit with their own song, “The Boy Is Mine,” back in 1998. The remix is set to arrive this Friday, June 21.

On Instagram, Grande announced the remix, writing, “I ……… cannot believe this is real (i don’t know if i will even long after it’s out).” She went on to thank Brandy and Monica, “not only for joining me for this moment, but for your generosity, your kindness, and for the countless ways in which you have inspired me.”

Grande continued: “It is near impossible to say how much this means to me. This is in celebration of you both and the impact that you have had on every vocalist, vocal producer, musician, artist that is creating today.”

The “Boy Is Mine” remix with Brandy and Monica comes as no surprise considering the two R&B greats also made cameos in Grande’s recent music video for the Eternal Sunshine single. The pair played news anchors introducing a press conference by a hotshot young mayor (played by Penn Badgley) introducing his grand plan to address the city’s rat problem (i.e. release a bunch of hungry cats into the street.)

In an interview with Zane Lowe back in March, Grande discussed her love of Brandy and Monica’s “The Boy Is Mine,” and outlined her intentions with her own version: “I’ve always wanted to reimagine that song in some kind of way,” she said, adding: “There is a large group of my fans that really do love a bad girl anthem. This is, I think, an elevated version of that.”
