Are you team “dark and ominous” or “fresh reawakening”?

Didn’t we tell you that blush is back?! And that the goth renaissance is upon us? If you needed any further proof, the Met Gala 2024 beauty looks should put any lingering skepticism to rest. The “Garden of Time”-themed gala, which accompanied this year’s “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” exhibition, was full of A-listers who were seemingly split into two different camps when it came to their interpretation of the theme: goth girls and ethereal fairies.

From the blushing beauties who went with a more-is-more approach on the apples of their cheeks to the edgy ingenues who went the dark forest nymph route, we loved seeing how everyone interpreted “The Garden of Time” with their hair and makeup looks.

Read on for our favourite Met Gala 2024 beauty moments, including glowy makeup, whimsically wavy hair, goth glam and cheeky micro-bangs.

The shimmering, blushing fairies

What says ethereal goddess more than a boatload of blush and shimmery, glowing highlighter that can be seen from space? Everyone from veteran Met guests like Kylie Jenner to Jennifer Lopez to first-timer Ayo Edebiri went for glowing makeup, and we loved every second of it. The below celebs transformed into real-life angels with their Met Gala 2024 beauty.

Ariana Grande

Did you expect anything less from the industry’s reigning fairy queen? Grande’s longtime makeup artist Michael Anthony created the stunning look using all R.E.M Beauty products. Her look was finished with custom petal wing appliqués by Daniel Vi Le glued onto the outer edges of her eyes.

Tyla

“We wanted Tyla glowing from head to toe,” writes makeup artist Pat McGrath. “The inspiration behind her overall look was the ‘sands of time,’ so her makeup was based all around sparkling sepia and brown tones.” The legendary makeup artist used Pat McGrath Labs products to create the stunning look.

Lana Del Rey

Makeup artist Etienne Ortega used Charlotte Tilbury and Ortega Beauty makeup for Lana Del Rey’s dreamy look, which included an ultra-glossy brown lip and lashes for days.

Makeup artist Keita Moore used Guerlain makeup products, like Terracotta Blush and Noir G 24H Graphic Liner, to create Monae’s shimmery, stunning look. Moore says she was inspired to craft an “ethereal, classical glam” look.

Taraji P. Henson

Using TPH by Taraji and Danessa Myricks Beauty products, hairstylist TYM Wallace and makeup artist Saisha Beecham created this whimsical pink look for Henson. “I wanted to go with pastel colours, especially pink, to bring out the subtle ombre of pinks in her gown,” writes Beecham, while Wallace says he was inspired by Diana Ross and Minnie Riperton for Henson’s hairdo.

Elle Fanning

“I was inspired by the organic, glistening quality of Elle’s incredible Balmain dress and wanted her skin to have that same glistening quality with a little romantic cloud around the eye and a flushed, luminized lip,” writes makeup artist Erin Ayanian Monroe, who used L’Oréal Paris products to achieve Fanning’s otherworldly glow.

Camila Morrone

For Camilla Morrone’s fresh beauty, makeup artist Mary Phillips used Nars Makeup to craft a look inspired by “ethereal, fresh reawakening.” This meant using Nars Afterglow Liquid Blush all over the cheeks and eyes, two shades of Powder Blush, and finishing the look with a Multiple Stick, for a multi-dimensional glow.

Sabrina Carpenter

“Our look today was all about glowing fresh skin and our inspiration is delicately fierce,” said celebrity makeup artist Carolina Gonzalez, who was behind Sabrina Carpenter‘s stunning look. Gonzalez used Armani Beauty products, including the iconic Luminous Silk Foundation, to craft the singer’s shimmery, blush-heavy look.

Cascading waves

No forest fairy’s look is complete without a mile-long train of waves cascading down their back. So many stars, including Sienna Miller, Karol G., Shakira and Jessica Biel, nailed the dreamy hairdo. Below are some of the standouts.

Zoe Saldana

Cascading waves by hairstylist Aviva Jansen Perea, who used Hair Rituel by Sisley products, completed Zoe Saldana’s dreamy, ethereal look.

Rachel Zegler

Rachel Zegler’s long, romantic waves were courtesy of hairstylist Clayton Hawkins, who used Dove and Mane products to achieve the look. “I am just so obsessed with the final result! It’s really timeless and romantic” says Hawkins, who captioned his Instagram post with a fairy emoji (told ya!).

The goth glam girlies

We’ve been so happy to see the resurgence of goth makeup in general, so imagine our thrill and delight at seeing it dominate the Met Gala red carpet. These dark divas nailed it.

Emma Chamberlain

“Her makeup was inspired by her deep brown lace dress, wrapped in thorns, reminiscent of the beautiful dead of winter where nature is calm and hauntingly magnificent,” writes celebrity makeup artist Kelsey Deenihan, who used Lancôme products for Chamberlain’s spooky-glam look. The makeup artist captioned the look “dark, ominous and absolutely stunning” on Instagram. We couldn’t agree more.

Alexandra Daddario

Makeup artist Lottie (known as Lotstar) used Dior skincare makeup to create Daddario’s striking look, while hairstylist Christopher Farmer used Verb hair products for her flawless waves.

Zendaya

One for the books! Makeup artist Raoul Alejandre and hairstylist Ursula Stephen joined forces on Zendaya’s show-stopping goth look for the 2024 Met Gala. The pair used Lancôme, Dyson and Living Proof products to perfect what may just be the most memorable (and certainly the spookiest) look at this year’s soirée.

Doja Cat

“For Doja’s Met Gala look, we used glitter to paint shimmering, enchanted tears of joy streaming down her cheeks,” says Pat McGrath, who used her own products for Doja Cat’s memorable makeup. “On her lids, we created the most beautiful gilded cat eyes using black pencil, black liquid liner, lots of mascara, and the warm scintillating shades in my Mothership V: Bronze Seduction palette. She looks absolutely major!”

Sydney Sweeney

Bye bye, blonde! Sydney Sweeney‘s hairstylist Glen Oropeza created her shocking new look using Kérastase products and SUTRA hair tools. “We created a romantic bubble-gum flush of colour that was the perfect contrast to the black details of her ensemble,” adds makeup artist Melissa Hernandez, who used Armani Beauty on Sweeney’s face.

So many micro-bangs

Nothing says bold like stepping onto the red carpet with a fresh set of eye-catching micro-bangs, and these stars nailed the look at the 2024 Met Gala.

Ashley Graham

You can thank celebrity hairstylist Justine Marjan, who used Covet & Mane hair extensions and GHD hair tools, for Ashley Graham’s cool, edgy Met Gala look. “Updos are so much easier to create when the hair has some texture to support the style,” writes Marjan on Instagram.

Iris Law

Hairstylist Rio Sreedharan gave Iris Law her jaw-dropping wet-look hairdo, complete with choppy micro-bangs, while makeup artist Anne Sophie Costa used Clinique products to create what she referred to as a “soft vampire” look.

Greta Lee

Shoutout to hairstylist Jenny Cho for giving us one of our favourite hair looks of the evening. Greta Lee’s micro-fringe paired perfectly with her dramatic, sculptural Loewe dress.
