Zayn Releases New Single ‘Alienated’
The song follows lead single “What I Am” from his upcoming album, Room Under the Stairs, due May 17
A little over a month from releasing his fourth studio album, Room Under the Stairs, Zayn released introspective new single “Alienated.”
“Can you let me be intoxicated on my own?/Do I need to answer or right my wrongs? Am I home if I don’t know this place?” the singer asks himself in the somber track. Backed by a simple beat, Zayn declares in the chorus: “I’ve been feeling alienated on my spaceship alone/Say goodbye to the past/Leave it all with a laugh.”
The upcoming 15-track album, out May 17 via Mercury Records, will feature lead single “What I Am,” along with “Alienated,” “My Woman,” “Something in the Water,” “Fuchsia Sea,” and more. Room Under the Stairs will follow Zayn’s last album, Nobody Is Listening, which was released in 2021.
“This is my favorite album that I’ve made to date, mainly because it comes from a place of sheer honesty and vulnerability,” Zayn said in a previous statement. “I wanted each song to feel as if it was just me sitting beside you telling you how I feel, singing directly to you. It’s raw and stripped back and the type of music I always hoped to make.” He added that working with co-producer Dave Cobb “has been an amazing experience,” elaborating, “The way he’s elevated the music is second to none, and he has done an incredible job helping me create this record.”
The artist continued, “I hope we can take listeners on some whimsical, magical journey, and that they enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed making it.”
