Maggie Rogers Drops ‘Sick of Dreaming’: Listen
Imagine choosing a flop basketball team over a queen!
On Tuesday, Maggie Rogers released her single “Sick of Dreaming,” a track dedicated to an ex-lover who isn’t willing to put her first — not even before a basketball game. (The track is the latest single off Don’t Forget Me.)
“You think you’re so cool/’Cause everybody knows you/But what’s so good about that?” she sings on the new single. “When every little thing’s up for taking.”
She ends the song with a voice recording of herself talking about the “loser” who left her at a restaurant to go to see the Knicks lose.
“So he calls me up 15 minutes before the reservation/And says he’s got Knicks tickets instead/I mean, I was at the restaurant!” she says in the song. “So I took the steaks to go, I had two martinis at the bar/And went to meet my friends down the street.”
“So Sick of Dreaming” is set to be featured on her upcoming album, Don’t Forget Me, out April 12. She announced the LP last month. This week she shared its 10-song track list, which features songs such as “I Still Do,” “Drunk,” and “On & On & On.”
The album was co-produced by herself and Ian Fitchuk, who also co-wrote eight songs. It initially existed as a collection of demos to be recorded later with a full band, but her creative process changed entirely when she realized that trying too hard to shape it into any one thing was taking away from its emotional core.
“I think it’s inherent that we give and take from each other. And that even with all the best intentions there can be some destruction too — take my money, wreck my Sundays,” she recently said of the album. “There are simple things I think we’d all give up for love. I think it’s just about wanting our sacrifices or suffering to be meaningful. To have it all not be forgotten. Don’t forget me.”
“This has been such a transformational and special time in my life. I’m so grateful for many years of support and care I’ve been offered to let me come to all of this in my way and in my time,” she added. “I can honestly say I’m more ready than I’ve ever been… and most importantly, I’m having a blast. I hope you love this record as much as I do.”
The album was written in chronological order across five days: three in December 2022 and two in January 2023. Don’t Forget Me follows Rogers’ second studio album Surrender, which arrived in 2022. She’s also set to hit the road this year.
