Best Hair Curler Tools 2024

We spoke to the experts to get the scoop on all the best hair curler options on the market for every hair type (and budget).

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to finding the best hair curler tool. Like most hair tools, the size and shape make a huge difference in achieving the type of curl you’re looking for, along with factors like your hair type, hair texture and the products you use. When it comes to heat-styled hair, a luscious hair oil and a top-notch hair mask always do the trick!

Why different hair types require different hair curler tools

Like any hair product, finding the right hair curling tool for you is an entirely personal process that mainly depends on your hair type. The one thing we can agree on across the board? Whether a tried-and-true curling iron or a hair roller set, any hair curler tool is an excellent way to elevate your haircare routine.

“There are many different ways to curl your hair,” says Toronto salon owner and founder of haircare brand THIC, Morgan Tully.

Depending on your hair type and thickness, Tully recommends different tools. “For fine hair, it’s generally recommended to use gentle heat and avoid excessive styling to prevent damage. A curling wand is usually best as it does not provide heat on both sides,” she explains.

“Thick hair often requires more heat and a stronger styling tool to create and hold curls,” notes Tully. “We often use a flat iron to create curls in thicker, denser hair because you can use more tension.”

Plus, having the right temperature will do wonders for your mane — if you have fragile, fine hair between 250°F-285°F is the sweet spot, whereas coarse, thick-hair gals work well with temperatures between 391°F-450°F. Hot tip: Use a heat protectant to prevent any heat damage!
