Vampire Weekend Announce ‘Only God Was Above Us’ Tour

Vampire Weekend will hit the road this summer for a lengthy tour in support of their upcoming album Only God Was Above Us.

Following the band’s sold-out, album-introducing, solar eclipse show in Austin, the 45-show trek kicks off in earnest April 27 at New Orleans’ Jazz Fest, and loops around North America before concluding back at Austin’s Moody Center on October 17.

Along the way, Vampire Weekend will make stops at Berkeley’s The Greek Theatre, Chicago’s Huntington Bank Pavilion, and New York’s Madison Square Garden, with each venue also hosting a Sunday morning “matinee show” for fans averse to staying up late.

Along the way, Vampire Weekend will be supported by a diverse batch of opening acts that include Turnstiles, the English Beat, Cults, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, Ra Ra Riot, a Mark Ronson DJ, and more.

Ahead of Only God Was Above Us’ April 5 release, Vampire Weekend have also shared two more new tracks from the LP, “Gen-X Cops” and “Capricorn.”

The group got the album title from a 1988 New York Daily News headline that its members spotted in a photo by Steven Siegel of a New Jersey subway graveyard. It referred to an Aloha Airlines flight on which an explosion ripped the roof off the plane.
