Ruggero Deodato’s ‘Cannibal Tales’ Aiming for February Release; Updated Demo Coming Soon [Teaser]

2024 will start things off with a bang for those waiting to play Fantastico Studio’s Cannibal Tales. The developer posted a new update to the game’s Steam page, announcing that development is close to completion. Not only that, but the team is once again confirming the goal to release Cannibal Tales “for the end of February.”

“We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve completed the implementation of all the game scenes,” reads the statement. “Currently, we’re focusing on refining the settings and saving features. Our goal is to wrap up development by January.”

The team also announced that they’ll be participating in February’s Steam Next Fest with a new demo for Cannibal Tales. You can still find the original demo that was released back in October on the game’s Steam page, just in case you wanted to get your comparisons out of the way.

As for that long-awaited release, the team is still focusing on that planned end of February release range.

For those that need a refresher, Fantastico Studio had announced a collaboration with Cannibal Holocaust director Ruggero Deodato back in 2020 for a video game that was touted as the “fourth, highly awaited chapter of Deodato’s cannibals cycle”. Titled Cannibal, the game then underwent a name change to Borneo: A Jungle Nightmare. From there, things got a bit dicey. Along with Deodato’s passing, the team ran out of money for development, which caused them to pivot development to create a visual novel based on a Deodato screenplay.

The new game, now titled Cannibal Tales, will be divided into three chapters. The first entry, “The Interview”, sees Helena, a journalist at “Bloody Disgusting” (no relation), determined to get a scoop that will allow her to become a partner at the newspaper. To do so, Helena decides to pursue a mystery surrounding Noah, a young survivor of metropolitan cannibal known as Price.

Aiming to unravel the connection between the two of them, and understand why Noah was spared, Helena presses for an interview. During the interview, the player’s morality will be put to the test as the line between good and evil grows increasingly blurred.

Cannibal Tales is currently in development for PC on Steam.
