Watch Mitch Rowland Perform ‘Here Comes the Comeback’ on ‘Kimmel’

The musician’s debut LP, Come June, is out now

Mitch Rowland, Harry Styles‘ touring guitarist and co-writer, appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to perform his song “Here Comes the Comeback.” The singer and guitarist took center stage alongside his band to showcase the mid-tempo folk-pop number.

Rowland is known for co-writing hits like “Watermelon Sugar” and “Sign of the Times” and recently won a Grammy for Album of the Year for his work on Styles’ global blockbuster Harry’s House. Styles once described the guitarist to Rolling Stone as “super inspiring,” adding, “There’s a magic to Mitch, past him being so good. I feel like he represents a kind of magic to me.”

“Here Comes the Comeback” appears on Rowland’s debut LP, Come June, which arrived in October via Styles’ Erskine Records. The album version of the song features Styles on backup vocals.

Rowland told Rolling Stone he wanted the LP, produced by Rob Schnapf, to have a homemade feel. “I wanted it to sound as wood-y as possible,” he said. “I hope we achieved even a quarter of the way [Neil Young’s] Harvest sounds when you put it on.”

He added that his pop career has been “a nice accident.” “I never wanted to win a Grammy,” Rowland said. “I just never thought about that. How could that even possibly enter my brain?” He said that he owes Styles’ for his current success.

“Harry could have picked any group of people when he decided he was going to go solo,” Rowland said. “He was massive — he was larger than life. I still can’t believe he wanted to make music with someone who had zero credit to their name, when he could have done the opposite so easily, and everyone would’ve said yes. I’ll never quite get over that.”
