Weyes Blood Gets Spooky Season Started Right With New ‘Twin Flame’ Video

Tales From the Crypt

Natalie Merring wanders through a haunted castle, stumbles across skeletons, and confronts a spiritual foe in the new clip

With October just around the corner, Weyes Blood is getting into the Halloween spirit with the eerie and ghastly new video for “Twin Flame.”

Directed by Ambar Navarro, the clip hearkens back to old school fantasy and gothic horror flicks. It opens with an animated sequence in which a man rides away from a castle in the middle of the night. It then switches to live-action, with Weyes Blood’s Natalie Mering playing the woman left behind, left to wander this creepy castle, while her dark-side doppelgänger also stalks the halls.

The “Twin Flame” video builds to a chilling moment — shot through with just the right amount of outdated special effects camp — in which Mering opens a locked dungeon door and finds a pile of skeletons crawling with maggots. A supernatural storm follows, as blood starts to drip from the wall, dusty tomes fly off the shelves, bugs start to sparkle with weird colors, and Mering and her doppelgänger appear to reach some kind of haunting accord.

“Twin Flame” is the latest visual Weyes Blood has shared from her celebrated 2022 album, And in the Darkness, Hearts Aglow. Earlier this year, she released a clip for the quasi-title track “Hearts Aglow,” which features footage filmed during her ongoing tour. She also shared clips for “Grapevine” and “It’s Not Just Me, It’s Everybody.”

Weyes Blood has a handful of remaining West Coast dates scheduled on her North American tour itinerary; the run wraps Oct. 4 at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles with Perfume Genius. After that, she’ll kick off a European and U.K. trek, followed by a handful of shows in South America and Mexico in late November.
