P!nk Slams Hateful Birthday Message From Troll: ‘What a Wasted Opportunity Here’
Get Out of Here
The pop singer said she shared the post with her daughter as a “lesson in ignorance”
P!nk celebrated her 44th birthday over the weekend, but not all of social media had well wishes for the pop singer. Yesterday, an X user took the time to post an image of British trans comedian Suzy Izzard (previously Eddie Izzard) along with “Happy birthday @pink,” seemingly in an attempt to insult her appearance.
But instead of letting trolls be trolls, P!nk took the opportunity to call out their behavior. “Thank you so much,” she wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “I just showed my 12 year old daughter your post. I explained to her that I’ve never met you, I don’t know you, and I have no idea why you would go out of your way to be hateful. It was a good lesson in ignorance.”
She added, “More importantly, what a wasted opportunity here. There are so many pictures you could’ve chosen that were actually me that were worse than this picture, you nameless fucko. At least be creative next time dum dum.”
P!nk has been a longtime advocate against bullying and explained why she decided to respond to the troll. “I post these things to show the kids I know – my own kids as well, that we are all occasionally treated badly,” she wrote. “I show them because they know me, and they know that my self-esteem does Not rely on the opinions of others. Nor does it rely on how many tickets I sell. Good/bad. Whatever. I love Me.”
P!nk released her most recent LP, Trustfall, earlier this year. The singer has been on tour promoting the album since. In July, she paid tribute to Irish singer and songwriter Sinead O’Connor during her Summer Carnival tour, bringing Brandi Carlile onstage to perform “Nothing Compares 2 U.” In August, she celebrated Britney Spears during a concert with updated “Don’t Let Me Get Me” lyrics.
