Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas Matched in Tan and Black Looks for a Spring Day Date
New season, new opportunity for a celebrity couple to subtly coordinate outfits, like Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas in New York on Wednesday. The two were photographed out shopping in the city, both wearing tan and black ensembles. Jonas’ look was almost fully black with a pop of tan, while Turner, donning a tan trench, brown shirt, and jeans, had a hint of black on her coat collar.
The parents of two keep their family life as private as possible, but Turner has been more forthcoming about how much she adores her husband. Turner told Jimmy Fallon last year that she was sure about Jonas the day that she met him in October 2016. She knew she’d marry him “I mean the first night I met him,” she said. For their first date, “We went out and we hung out at a bar with, like, all my friends, and all his friends, and then they all came back to my apartment and we had drinks after.”
“I remember he left my apartment, and it may have been the alcohol, but I just wept to my brother. I was like, ‘I love this man so much,’” she said. “And I knew. And that was it.”
Jonas and Turner went on to get engaged a year later and ultimately married in May 2019. Turner gave more details about their first date to ELLE in April 2020.
Jonas’ agent set them up, and Jonas DM’d Turner asking if she wanted to hang out while he was in London performing with his band DNCE. She didn’t think she’d like him nearly as much as she did. “I expected him to show up with security and everything. I thought, ‘He’s gonna be such a dick,’” Turner recalled. “I brought all my guy friends to come with me to meet him, because in the back of my mind I still worried that he could be a catfish—or I don’t know what. I just wanted my guy friends with me. I had my rugby boys. I was safe.”
She chose to meet Jonas at a neighborhood bar in Camden. “It was just this local shitty bar, dirty, with great music and people throwing up everywhere,” Turner said. “It was that kind of place. Kind of like the worst, but also kind of the best.”
“He didn’t bring security,” she said of their first meeting. “He brought a friend, and they drank just as hard as the rest of us. I remember the two of us spending only a couple of minutes on the dance floor, and then we just found a space far in the corner and we just talked. We talked for hours, and hours, and hours. And I was, like, not bored. It wasn’t contrived. It wasn’t small talk—it was just so easy. And soon we were, like, inseparable. I went on tour with him.”
