Here’s what you need to know about the upcoming project, including all of its new cast members.

What’s it about?

Daisy and the Six is based on the 2019 novel of the same name, which was previously a pick for Witherspoon’s Book Club. Written by Taylor Jenkins Reid, who will also produce the series, the book follows the rise and fall of a renowned rock band in the 1970s. Keough will play lead singer Jones, who is described as someone “born into privilege but ignored by her selfish parents. She is a spirited and enigmatic singer/songwriter who comes of age and rises to rock superstardom against the backdrop of the L.A. music scene in the 1970s,” per Variety. Original music from the series will also be available through Amazon Music, according to The Wrap.

“I’m so honored to be your Daisy,” Keough wrote on Instagram when her casting was announced.

When will it premiere?

Daisy Jones & the Six premieres on Prime Video on Friday, March 3, 2023. The Hollywood Reporter previously reported that the limited series would be 12 episodes long. While there is no trailer yet, Vanity Fair shared a number of first-look photos here.

Who is in the cast?

Keough will lead the series as Jones, and has plenty of experience to draw on for the role. In 2010 she starred alongside Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning in The Runaways, about the rise of the band that introduced Joan Jett and Cherie Currie to the world. Keough also has a unique family tie; she’s the eldest grandchild of Elvis and Priscilla Presley.

Niki Caro (Whale Rider, 2020’s Mulan) will direct multiple episodes of the series, including the pilot, as well as executive produce, according to The Hollywood Reporter. In addition to Caro, Witherspoon, and Reid, Lauren Neustadter of Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine will executive produce along with Brad Mendelsohn and showrunner Will Graham. Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber (500 Days of Summer, The Spectacular Now) created the series and will also executive produce.

What will the music be like?

The series will feature original songs using lyrics from Reid’s book and embodying the sound the ’70s rock era. While the story is inspired by Fleetwood Mac, the Daisy Jones producers didn’t want the show’s music to sound like “an imitation of any specific group,” according to Vanity Fair. They tapped Blake Mills, who has played with Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell, and Tony Berg as lead songwriters, who created 25-plus tracks that play throughout the season. The duo collaborated with a number of real-life artists, including Phoebe Bridgers. Book fans will recognize songs mentioned in the novel, like “Regret Me” and “Aurora.” The soundtrack will also be released via Atlantic Records.

Keough and Claflin sing with their real voices in the series—there is no dubbing—and all cast members played their own instruments, per VF.
