Fight Through Eldritch Horrors in the Upcoming Roguelite ‘Lethal Honor – Order of the Apocalypse’ [Trailer]

The rumours are true. THQ Nordic and developer Pieces Interactive has resurrected Alone in the Dark for a new generation.

Officially revealed during THQ Nordic’s showcase at Gamescom 2022 (after Belgian retailer Smartoys pre-emptively posted a listing for the game), this remake of Alone in the Dark will see players return to the Derceto mansion in what’s described as a “love letter to the cult ’90s game”.

Coming to the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC, the game will have some pedigree behind its writing with screenwriter Mikael Hedberg, who had the writing duties for SOMA and Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

Taking place in the deep south of the United States during the years 1920, players will assume the role of either Edward Carnby or Emily Hartwood as they search for Emily’s uncle, who has disappeared. Their search leads them to Derceto manor, a mental asylum where “something is lurking”.

“Encounter strange residents, nightmarish realms, dangerous monsters and ultimately unveil a plot of rising evil. At the intersection of reality, mystery, and insanity, an adventure waits that will challenge your core beliefs. Who can you trust, what will you believe, and what will you do next?”

Described as “psychological horror meets Southern Gothic”, the Alone in the Dark remake appears to take a cue from Capcom’s Resident Evil 2 remake with its camera and gameplay, which is definitely not a bad thing. And yes, the game will feature the Lovecraftian mythos that fans loved the first time around.
