Melissa Sklarz Guests On TriVersity Talk! Thursday December 9th, 2021 at 7 PM ET

Wendy Stuart and Steven Bloomer-Teague will be hosting TriVersity Talk! this Thursday December 9th, 2021 at 7 PM ET  talking with  featured guest Melissa Sklarz.

TriVersity Talk! is a weekly web series with featured guests discussing their lives, activism and pressing issues in the LGBTQ Community. With TriVersity Talk!, the goal is to laugh and learn.TriVersity Talk! Is part of TriVersity’s ICARE Initiative. ICARE stands for Increasing Community Awareness through Relevant Education. ICARE Programs are generously funded by The Greater Pike Community Foundation.

In June 2020, Melissa Sklarz became one of the first two trans women in New York to be elected Democratic District Leader, in the 30th AD in Queens.

In 1999, Melissa became the first transgender person elected to office in New York when she was elected a Judicial Delegate from the 66th Assembly District and in 2016, Melissa was elected to be a delegate to the Democratic National Convention, becoming the first New York trans person ever elected. Melissa also became the first trans elector in the Electoral College that year.

She lobbied City Hall in the 1990s to help bring civil rights to transgender people in New York City and lobbied Albany for 18 years to help pass the trans civil rights bill GENDA and was at the side of Governor Cuomo when he signed the bill in 2019. Melissa is the past President of Stonewall Democrats of New York City, past Board co-chair of National Stonewall Democrats, and past co-chair of the Empire State Pride Agenda.

Most recently, Melissa worked at SAGE, on behalf of LGBT elders, as the senior government relations strategist.
