The Mandalorian star Bill Burr has defended his former co-star Gina Carano, saying she was an “absolute sweetheart”.

Carano, who played Cara Dune in the Disney Plus series, was fired after sharing an Instagram post seemingly comparing being a Republican to being Jewish during the Holocaust, and after being accused of “mocking trans people” by posting “boop/bop/beep” as her pronouns.

On a recent episode of his The Bill Bert Podcast with Bert Kreischer, Burr defended his former co-star, with who he seemingly had a good working relationship with. Burr played Migs Mayfeld, a rogue bounty hunter, in The Mandalorian.

“She was an absolute sweetheart, super nice f*****g person,” Burr said. “And you know, whatever, somehow someone will take this video and f*****g make me say something else and try to get rid of my bald action figure!”

He referred to how Hasbro has cancelled Carano’s Cara Dune action figure. Burr said he had to “watch what the f**k I say” because he is on the show. He said there are “people waiting, just laying in the weeds” to judge what people say and “take that dream away”.

Burr asked how people could judge “somebody that harshly” for what he did not consider “hardcore s**t like sexual assault and rape and stuff”. He continued: “Now it’s becoming, like, ‘Hey you made an ignorant comparison. There goes your dream.’

“I look at that and say ‘Who the f**k stands up to that?’”

Joe DeRosa, who was a guest on the podcast, said he understood what Carano was trying to say. He added: “Obviously, any comparison to anything with the Holocaust is a shoddy comparison, it’s a dumb thing do, I’m not disagreeing with any of that.”

“However, how is it any different from all the people on the left when Trump got elected and they said he’s like Hitler – how is that any different?”

In the fallout of her statements, Carano was abandoned by her agents.

But following her firing, Carano was immediately hired by conservative commentator Ben Shapiro’s The Daily Wire, who promised the former MMA fighter her own movie.

In an interview posted on Shapiro‘s YouTube channel, Carano said she “had an agreement” with former co-star Pedro Pascal after they realised “we were a little bit politically different”.

She said she “adores” Pascal, who is a staunch LGBT+ supporter, but the two did not see eye-to-eye on certain issues. Carano said: “We had an agreement that – first and foremost – you’re a human being, and you’re my friend first.

“We’re both passionate. We just think a little bit differently.”

In the same interview, she also alleged she was “bullied” by Disney’s Lucasfilm, and claimed she is “not the only one”.

She said she was “head-hunted” by Disney because she “wasn’t going along with the [studio’s] narrative”.
